Mommy Needs a Margarita: Why Every Mom Needs A Mommycation

What Is A Mommycation?

A mommycation is like a vacation but without the whining, tantrums, and constant demands for snacks. It's a chance for moms to relax, recharge, and remember what it's like to have a life outside of parenthood. Taking a break from parenting is like hitting the reset button on your sanity. It's a chance to remember what it's like to pee alone, sleep in, and have a conversation that doesn't involve the word "poop." Trust me; you deserve it.

What Are The Benefits of a Mommycation?

As a mom, it's easy to feel like you're constantly on the go. There's little time left for self-care between school drop-offs, after-school activities, work, and grocery shopping. That's where a mommycation comes in. Taking a break from parenting can work wonders for your mental health, giving you a chance to recharge your batteries and come back refreshed and ready to tackle whatever life throws your way. Not only that but a little time away can also boost your productivity and focus, making you a better parent and partner in the long run.

What Are Ideal Destinations For A Mommycation?

When it comes to mommycation destinations, the possibilities are endless. For those looking for a little solo time, consider destinations like Sedona, Arizona or Costa Rica, where you can soak up some sun and unwind in peace. If you're looking to reconnect with friends, a weekend getaway to wine country or a cozy cabin in the woods can be just what the doctor ordered. Prefer to stay close to home? A staycation can be just as rejuvenating, with options like spa days, movie marathons, and lazy mornings in bed. And for the more adventurous types, consider destinations like Bali or Yosemite National Park, where you can hike, ski, and explore to your heart's content. Whatever your style, there's a mommycation destination out there just waiting for you.

My Last Mommycation

So, I've been on two official mommycations so far. Crazy, right? And get this: my travel buddy wasn't even a mom, but she totally got that I needed some downtime to recharge. My first one was a cruise to Cuba, which I planned all by myself. The second one was a trip to Cancun that my husband surprised me with while we were in triage for the birth of our baby boy. I mean, talk about a gift that keeps on giving! How did he know I'd be ready to escape in just 6 months? Well, I guess he knows me better than I know myself (cue the sappy music). But seriously, shoutout to all the partners who understand the importance of a mommycation. You're the real MVPs.

In Cancun we stayed at an all-inclusive resort. I'm talking unlimited food, drinks, pools, and a beach that could make even the most uptight person loosen up. And get this: we treated ourselves to a day lounging in a cabana right on the beach. Yep, you heard me right. We did absolutely nothing (and it was amazing). Of course, we couldn't just spend the whole time being lazy (as tempting as that was). So, we ventured out and saw one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Chichen Itza. It was stunning! And, to top it off, we also swam in a 157ft Cenote. As if that wasn't enough, we also discovered the best taco joint in town called Mr. Habeneros. I mean, seriously, the tacos were out of this world. And don't even get me started on how friendly the locals were. They helped us navigate the town and even showed us how to take the R-2 bus downtown (which, by the way, only costs $1). It was an incredible trip, and even though I missed my family, I knew I needed it. By the way, if you're planning a trip to Mexico, use my promo code XNAFF15 to get 15% off on the Cenote/Xenote tour with Xcaret. Trust me it’s worth it!!!

Let’s Recap

Alright, let's recap: mommycations are like mini mental health vacations that help us recharge our batteries and be better parents and partners. It's important to prioritize self-care and take a break when needed (trust me, your kids won't fall apart without you for a few days). So, I encourage you to plan your own mommycation - whether it's a solo trip to Bali or a staycation at home with a bottle of wine and a good book. You deserve it! So, grab your passport (or your pajamas) and start planning. Your mental health (and your family's) will thank you for it.
