Mission: Possible! Transforming Your Kid's Playroom from Chaos to Order

Welcome to the ultimate mission, should you choose to accept! Ever tiptoed through a toy minefield, desperately avoiding those treacherous Legos? Well, join the club! I am here to tell you your playroom rescue squad has arrived, ready to tackle the chaos like superheroes with organizational capes. No more risking foot pain for the sake of fun! Let’s turn that playroom maze into an oasis of order and wave goodbye to the toy tornado. Let’s say hello to a space that’s not only beautiful and functional but also jam-packed with fun. Let’s get into it!

Mission: Toy Purge

Our mission begins with a very courageous and important act – the toy purge. Arm yourself with sturdy boxes and your best ninja skills to separate toys into three categories: keep, donate, and toss. This not only streamlines the playroom but also gives your little ones a valuable lesson in sharing with those in need. Also, this is not going to be an easy task because our little mini hoarders are going to want to keep everything. But be brave and bold, and put your foot down. Let them know that some things have to go. Here is a secret. Throw things away without them knowing. Toys can go on a vacation without notice. Poof, vanished! The kiddos won’t even notice. Or get yourself a bin, and while they are away at school or a sleepover, stuff it full of toys you know they don’t play with. If they don’t ask for those toys in a month or so, put them in the trash or donate them.

Mission: Storage Solutions

With clutter out of the way, it's time for the next phase – finding the perfect storage solutions. Embrace your inner detective and scout for bins, baskets, and shelves that are not only functional but also add a dash of style to the room. Check out Amazon for all the trendy finds. I put one of my faves below. Labeling containers not only keeps things organized but also encourages your tiny hoarders to get involved. I let my kiddos help decide how the toys are going to be organized. My oldest daughter enjoys this part, and she is turning into her mommy. I have yet to label their bins as my toddler can’t read just yet and she’s just going to have them all over the place anyway. So I will label them once she gets a little older, and I won’t have to re-label them.

Mission: Create Zones

Create designated zones within the playroom to give each type of play a home. A cozy reading nook with cushions, shelves of books, and soft lighting, a craft corner with supplies neatly tucked away, and a puzzle paradise – let your creativity shine while keeping the space organized. Think of themes that resonate with your child's interests, making it an inviting space that sparks their imagination. My kiddos have an area for their Barbies and HUGE playhouses, a place to do their homework, a tent to tuck away and read books, and a couch to sit and watch TV. The space is so big we were able to give them a great space they can have to themselves. Although they always want to be where I am because everyone loves Mom!

Mission: Artful Display

Ever-changing displays of your child's masterpieces can add an artistic touch to the playroom. Designate a 'Gallery Wall' where you showcase their drawings, paintings, and crafts. Consider implementing a rotation system to keep things fresh while preventing overwhelming clutter. Even allow your kiddos to choose the art they would like displayed. Our kiddos enjoy coloring and painting. At least every other day, they are asking to color and/or paint. I have a bin that they put their art in that they really like. When the time comes, I will let them choose the masterpiece that goes on the wall. Check out our gallery wall below. It is due for an update and sprucing up.

Mission: Daily Quick Clean-Up

Institute a daily ritual of a quick 10-minute clean-up before bedtime. Engage your little helpers in this routine, teaching them responsibility and the joy of a tidy space. A few minutes a day can make a world of difference in maintaining the newfound order. Play their favorite songs to get them in the mood, set a timer so they can see the countdown, or bribe them with snacks for whoever cleans up the fastest (of course, the snacks will be given the next day). Get them involved however you need in order to get the job done!

Mission Complete!

You've completed the ultimate mission, turning chaos into an organized haven where your child's imagination can flourish. Embrace the joy of a clutter-free playroom that's not only kid-friendly but also easy on the eyes. Remember, this transformation isn't just about tidying up; it's about creating a nurturing environment where kids can learn, explore, and create memories that last a lifetime.
